History of Red Ribbon Week and Additional Information.
Red Ribbon Week was established by Congress in 1988 to commemorate the work of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, who was murdered in the line of duty. The Red Ribbon Campaign was created so that we can express our firm conviction to create visible support for drug free communities.
This year's theme, "The Best Me is Drug Free," helps create awareness of the drug problems facing our community and to promote drug-free lifestyle for all Californians. Red Ribbon Week will include school based activities with participation from Monterey and San Benito County Friday Night Live (FNL), Hollister Police Department, San Benito County Probation, California Highway Patrol and the San Benito County Tobacco Coalition.
