Caleb Kim is a 13 year-old student currently attending Carmel Middle School. Caleb took a keen interest in music at an early age by starting his first piano lesson at the age of four and, on the way, he integrated cello into his musical journey as he turned six. Caleb and his family moved to Carmel in2009. Caleb studied previously with Margie Dally, who has tirelessly supported and enabled development of his love for music. Aleksey Klyushnik, his current cello instructor, continues to mentor and encourage Caleb to grow and mature as a musician. Caleb’s passion for musical performance has continued to blossom as he is completing his fifth year as a member of the YMMC Orchestra and going on his second year with YMMC Chamber Music. His recent accolades include, placing first in MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California) Competition for two consecutive years (2010 and 2011), being awarded a Gold Medal with Command Performance recognition for 2012 CMEA State Solo and Ensemble Festival, being selected as the principal cellist for the CMEA Central Coast Section Honor Orchestra (2010-14), and receiving an opportunity to represent the Central Coast, as the only cellist from the region, in the CODA Junior High All-State Orchestra for two consecutive years (2013-2014). Caleb was also selected as a soloist for the Young Musician’s Showcase during Carmel Bach Festival. In addition to his love for music, Caleb has continues to excel academically while furthering his passion for playing tennis as a member of the Carmel Middle School tennis team. Caleb has competed and placed several times in United States Tennis Association (USTA) junior tournaments and plans on advancing his USTA standings. This past summer, Caleb and his local sectional team placed first for Northern California Sectional Championship and were invited to compete for Nationals.
